JARKs A little about us…

I, Marianne, grew up in Palmerston North and in 1991, while holidaying at Aramoana Beach, Central Hawkes Bay, I met and fell in love with a Hawkes Bay boy named Peter. He was a born and bred Napier boy, living most of his childhood in his family home in Maraenui. He had two sons who I quickly came to adore. Some years later we married and went on to have twin daughters to complete the family unit.
We had dreamed of opening our own restaurant & had done a lot of catering work for others so decided we should take the gamble and open a place together. With a passion for the ocean we searched the North Island coast and eventually bought a property at Waimarama Beach, a small coastal town just 20 minutes from Havelock North. In 2007, after a few hiccups in the building process, we finally opened JARKs Surfside Café, Bar & Restaurant at Waimarama Beach.

The name JARKs is an acronym derived from our 4 children’s names Jason, Alicia, Rebecca & Kiel.
After almost eight successful, years at the beach, in 2014 we decided to take the same simple food & service philosophy into Hastings as the huge population seemed lacking in eateries and we were ready for a new challenge and a less seasonal business. The Corn Exchange building was up for lease and we were delighted when owner Rupert Ryan gave us the opportunity to bring it back to life.

Today we strive to deliver the same MISSION STATEMENT unchanged since 2007.

To deliver quality food and service, that exceeds expectations, to a diverse range of customers at an affordable price whilst maintaining profitability.

To treat our staff and customers with the respect we would expect in return.

To create an environment where you feel you’ve been welcomed into our home and where staff enjoy working

To continually strive to improve and to change to meet needs, to encourage and assist personal growth.

We thank you, our families & our wonderful team for helping us make our dreams reality. We hope you enjoy JARKs Cityside Restaurant & Bar as much as we do.
